Community Battles
Real stages. Real beats. Real impact. Our graffiti, rap, dance, DJ and comedy battles bring together youth, artists, and neighbors to spark creativity and unity across Houston’s East Side. We use art and culture to prevent violence, build relationships, and strengthen local identity
Every battle we host is designed to raise awareness, foster dialogue, and amplify alternatives to violence while also being community relevant and engaging. Here are examples of the battles we host:
Goal / Theme: Take a common “tag” / street identity and rework it into a positive affirmation or call to nonviolence.
Goal / Theme: Use sound and rhythm to model de-escalation — DJ’s “interrupt” conflict with calming or redirecting beats.
Goal / Theme: Take a common code for retaliation or “response” and flip it into something that diffuses or disrupts.
Goal / Theme: Choreograph a short piece representing a journey from conflict to calm — movement telling a story of intervention or escape.
Goal / Theme: Through a comedic or spoken-word “news desk” approach, participants present a short satirical “community report” exposing root causes of violence (poverty, jobs, trauma) and propose solutions.
